Aims: The transit-oriented development approach is recognized internationally as a successful way to address traffic problems. In Iran, despite more than 20 years of study, implementation has been unsuccessful, and the issues have not been studied in an integrated manner, causing ambiguity for decision-makers. The aim of this study was to examine and analyze the content of the scientific outputs of the 20-year transit-oriented development approach in Iran.
Methodology: The present scientometric article was conducted in 2023 using a systematic review and content analysis. Data collection was done through document observation. Data were collected using a researcher-developed list and analyzed using Excel 2022 and MaxQda 2020. Coding of the main concepts and examination of the research were conducted across four dimensions: time, degree of indexing, thematic field, and mainstream of studies. Validity assessment was carried out by 3 urban planning experts.
Findings: After coding and categorizing 116 theses, 67 articles, and 10 books, 293 subject codes were finally extracted, grouped, and analyzed in three main categories with the opinions of three academic experts. The research trend was upward with fluctuations, and most of the research was indexed in 2020. There was a theoretical gap regarding the relationship among transportation-oriented development, tourism, justice, and housing.
Conclusion: The inference from the concept of a transit-oriented development approach in Iran is at the station level and focuses on evaluating and measuring its impact on the current situation.
