Monitoring coastline changes using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS) with emphasis on Geomorphology. Case Study (Boushehr Port)

Aims&Backgrounds: . The purpose of this research was to evaluate the coastline variation in Bushehr city and to investigate sedimentation and erosion Bushehr coastline using satellite images of TM, ETM, OLI from 1976 to 2018.

Methodology: pre-processing, processing and visualization of satellite images to lead using ENVI5.3 software. Using the supervised classification method and maximum likelihood algorithm, the images were classified. Then the changes detection and the coastline changes were finally analyzed. To determine the hydraulic and hydrostatic specification of the study area, the coefficient of curvature index was used.

Findings: By analyzing the results, were identified maximum length of the coastline in 2018 was 200 kilometers long and its lowest value in 1976 was 122 kilometers long. The length of the coastline increases in all study periods. therefore, human activities have played a greater role in coastal change. Some structures and installations cause an imbalance in erosion and sedimentation, causing displacement and variation in width in parts of the coast, canals and khor. For quantitative analysis of coastline change, the coefficient of curvature index was used to compare the years studied.

Conclusion: Research has shown that Most of the changes have been offlap along the coastline. Increasing the number of arches in the range of more than 2 (curvature coefficient) in 1986, 2018 and 2018 indicates a non-equilibrium that, in addition to the effect of natural factors, has had the greatest impact on human activities. The results showed that due to low slope and human interference, increasing the level of water level could cause serious challenges and environmental threats.
