SO - Geographical-Researches 1 ABĀ  - Iraq’s being geographically located in the west of Iran on one hand and as a climate fact the atmospheric flows in the middle latitudes being generally western on the second hand cause Iran’s climate be directly affected by any climate changes in Iraq. Thus in this research in order to identify the climate features of this country more, the temporal and local patterns of precipitation of this western neighbor of Iran which is one of the arid and semiarid lands have been investigated. In order to conduct this analysis, the network data of Aphrodite Database with 0.25 degrees resolution of latitude and longitude in a 57-year-period (1951-2007) have been used. Then the yearly, seasonal and monthly means were calculated with the aid of Matlab Software program and 17 local, four seasonal and 12 monthly maps were plotted by using the “nearest neighborhood” method in “Surfer” Software program. In addition, in order to conduct a temporal analysis, the weighted mean of parameter data of precipitation were calculated and then 17 temporal series consisted of yearly, seasonal and monthly temporal series were plotted. In the end, the procedure significance of these temporal series was tested by using the non-parametric Mann-Kendall test on 95% and 99% confidence levels. With respect to local analysis, Iraq’s precipitation does not enjoy a consistent time and space distribution, so that north-south and east-west precipitations have decreased perceptibly. The yearly precipitation mean of Iraq has been estimated as 202mm which is fairly insignificant comparing with the earth precipitation (960mm). This indicates the dry climate of this country.In winter it receives 42 percent of its precipitation. Meanwhile summer is the driest season and only 2 percent of precipitation fails in summer. April is the rainiest month and July is the driest. These two months receive 30 mm and one mm of precipitation respectively. A non-parametric Mann-Kendall trend analysis applied on the time series of precipitation.These series show no significant trend in 95 & 99 confidence levels. Spatial analysis of precipitation in Iraq shows the distribution of precipitation over the country is uneven. Precipitation decreases from north to south and east to west. Mean annual precipitation of the country is only 202 mm. so Iraq suffers from a very dry climate. A temporal variation of precipitation in Iraq is not remarkable.
