Abstract

Introduction: Biophilic urban design can enhance citizens' mental and physical health, increase biodiversity, and mitigate the negative impacts of urban development. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the design of a biophilic city in District 22 of Tehran.
Methodology: This research began with a review of the literature and documentary studies to examine the global background of similar research and identify related components and criteria. In-depth interviews were then conducted with experts in various fields, such as urban planners, architects, psychologists, and other specialists, to explore hidden aspects of the biophilic city concept. Following this, the Delphi method was employed to prioritize and achieve expert consensus. A questionnaire was designed based on the interview findings and distributed in District 22 of Tehran. The collected data were analyzed using statistical methods such as regression and Pearson correlation. Finally, data analysis was performed using factor analysis with the AMOS software.
Findings: The study revealed that factors such as social vitality, economic dynamism, green transportation, and environmental sustainability significantly impact achieving a biophilic city in District 22 of Tehran. These factors explained changes in the dependent variable of the biophilic city with high adjusted R² coefficients ranging from 0.6 to 0.8. Among the indicators, environmental sustainability (path coefficient = 0.831) and social vitality (total impact = 0.541) played the most prominent roles. A strong positive correlation was confirmed between indicators such as time spent in nature, social participation, and the use of green transportation with a biophilic city, while indicators like pedestrian path per capita and the number of bicycle stations had moderate correlations. These findings underscore the importance of integrated and interdisciplinary approaches in urban design and management to develop biophilic cities.
Conclusion: The studied indicators have a high capacity to explain changes related to the biophilic city concept.

Abstract

Aims: Taking strategy of urban branding is considered the basic need of cities to survive in the global economy. For this purpose, building and managing the city image is necessary because it is through perception and image that actions are formed. The purpose of this research was to investigate the relationship between effective components on the image in the form of a case study including 15 shopping centers in Tabriz.
Methodology: The current research was conducted with the field method and exploratory analysis type in 1401 in the statistical population of Tabriz citizens. By conducting documentary studies in the field of urban branding, the constructive components were identified and formulated in the form of a five-factor model. The relationship between variables was tested using structural equation modeling with partial least squares and data were analyzed using SmartPLS3 software.
Findings:  At a significance level of 0.01, "perceptual quality" and "awareness" have a direct effect on the "mental image" and at level of 0.05, "personal characteristics" have a direct effect on the "mental image". At level of 0.01, "mental image" has a direct effect on "loyalty". 73.8% of the total effect of "perceptual quality" variable, 43.3% of "personal characteristics", 32.1% of "awareness" on "loyalty" is explained through the mediating variable of "mental image".
Conclusion: "Mental image" as the center of gravity in urban branding is directly influenced by three components; "perceptual quality", "personal characteristics" and "awareness". Among these "perceptual quality" is considered the most influential component. "Loyalty" as the final goal of branding is not directly related to aforementioned components and influencing it is possible through the mediation of "mental image". Therefore, the application of design measures in order to improve "perceptual quality" causes the formation of a powerful "mental image" of shopping spaces, which in turn leads to "loyalty" and provides the grounds for branding of such spaces.

Abstract

Aims: The objective of this investigation was to utilize theoretical frameworks and novel functionalities as presented in recent scholarly articles, in order to determine the most efficacious components for the design of a biophilic city.
Methodology: This study employed a comparative analytical research approach in the years 2023-2024. The statistical population consisted of 309 studies that were published in reputable databases such as ISI, WoS, ESI, IWSC, Scopus, as well as Persian studies found in SID, Mogiran, Civilica, etc. databases from 2001 to 2016. In accordance with the inclusion criteria, 54 studies were selected through purposive sampling, specifically targeting studies that included the keywords "biophilic" and "green city design". Additionally, an interview was conducted with a panel of experts to identify influential components. The selection of these experts was done through the snowball sampling method. Subsequently, variables that have an impact on biophilic city design were extracted. The reliability of these components was assessed through the use of a questionnaire and the expert opinions. The data obtained were analyzed utilizing structural equations via the Micmac software.
Findings: A total of 54 effective elements of biophilic city design were discerned. The adjustment of laws, implementation of biophilic programs, and allocation of budgets for biophilic and biomimicry undertakings exhibited the highest level of influence while registering the lowest level of susceptibility. Conversely, the components aimed at enhancing physical and mental well-being, performance and health, and fostering human compatibility with nature displayed the greatest level of susceptibility but the least level of influence.
Conclusion: In conclusion, the effective, impressionable, autonomous, and bimodal components encompassed respectively 22, 14, 7, and 11 elements out of 54 ones.

Abstract

Aims: The achievement of a prosperous urban environment encompasses a diverse array of subjective and objective elements. In this pursuit, it is crucial to consider physical indicators, as they play a pivotal role in the creation of a "successful" locale. One strategy that can be employed is the cultivation of social relations. Insufficient social connections within neighborhoods can give rise to issues such as a diminishing sense of belonging and a weakened collective spirit. The aim of this article is to identify the various components of the place-making approach and analyze its influence and function in shaping the social relations within urban spaces.
Methodology: This is a study that is applied in 2021 in Tabriz, and is conducted using the quantitative approach. In order to assess the components developed in the conceptual model, methods of survey research and descriptive analysis have been utilized. To achieve a comprehensive examination of the role of placemaking in the restoration of social relationships, it has been taken into consideration. The data has been gathered through desk studies and the collection of 384 questionnaires. In the section of data analysis, various neighborhoods of Tabriz have been assessed based on the statistical tests of regression, Spearman, Friedman, and ANOVA.
Findings: The physical, social, management-policy, perceptual-semantic, and economic aspects constitute the extracted elements of placemaking that exert a substantial influence on the restoration of social interactions as perceived by the populace.
Conclusion: The enhancement of urban spaces is predominantly driven by a combination of densely populated streets within the vicinity, stringent security measures, and an exceptional sense of individuality.
