Aims:
The expansion of the platform-based transportation economy in recent years has had significant impacts on mobility patterns, the spatial organization of cities, and urban management practices. This study was conducted to analyze the effects of the platform-based transportation economy on transformations in urban spatial structure and the urban management system in Isfahan City.
Methodology:
This study was conducted using a quantitative approach in Isfahan City during 2025–2026. The statistical population consisted of citizens using platform-based transportation services and experts in the fields of transportation, urban planning, and urban management. The sample size was determined to be 384 respondents based on Cochran’s formula. Data were collected through a researcher-developed questionnaire and analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in SPSS and AMOS software.
Findings:
The results showed that the platform-based transportation economy has a positive and significant effect on changes in urban mobility patterns and spatial accessibility. In addition, changes in urban mobility patterns and spatial accessibility, as mediating variables, play an effective role in shaping transformations in the urban spatial structure. The findings also indicate a direct and significant effect of urban spatial structure transformations on the transformation of the urban management system.
Conclusion:
The findings indicate that the platform-based transportation economy, beyond being a mobility tool, has become an influential factor in the reorganization of urban spatial structure and the transformation of urban management patterns. Therefore, utilizing data-driven capacities and platform-based services can provide the basis for enhancing smart governance and improving the efficiency of urban management.
